STUFF
full-length play script
Synopsis
STUFF is an absurd drama about the traditions and traumas of a family ripping apart at its seams.
It is a funeral. Josie has returned to suburban Georgia to bury her grandmother, Josephine, and help her mother, Joanne, pack up the house. As she and Joanne attempt to organize the mess and deal with what’s changed between them in the three years since they were last together, things quite literally begin to unravel.
It is a flood. The women come together for a dysfunctional Thanksgiving sometime in the recent past. Weighed down by family secrets, mutual trauma, and the literal piles of shit in Josephine’s home, the women drown.
It is a fable. These women’s world has broken down to the point of nonsense. Embodying a Fish, Lumberjack, and Young Boy, they reach a cathartic finale.
